Chief Technical Strategist & Executive Director
Technical Investing: Why It Matters
Since 1996, Mr. Schlitz has been the Chief Technical Strategist at Instinet LLC, a global agency-only broker and Nomura Group Company. Prior to joining Instinet, Mr. Schlitz worked for 15 years at Lehman Brothers in block trading, market making and proprietary trading capacities. He services Instinet's institutional-only client base, which includes the top 100 hedge funds and money management firms in the U.S. Mr. Schlitz helps clients identify important technical developments, such as emerging continuation / reversal patterns, sentiment extremes, overbought-oversold conditions, relative strength divergences and early signs of sector rotation. He specializes in price pattern analysis, which was instrumental in identifying the 2007 and 2011 peaks in the S&P 500 index (i.e. Head and Shoulder tops), as well as the July 2009 breakout from a six month Reverse Head and Shoulder base pattern.
Mr. Schlitz fully believes that using price-based technical indicators (e.g. stochastics, RSI, etc.) without having a thorough understanding of basic price pattern analysis is simply an accident waiting to happen. He holds a B.S. in economics from the State University of New York @ Fredonia and has recently been quoted by Bloomberg, Reuters, the Financial Times, Barron's Blog and the WSJ on-line.
